If an ex-spouse stops making their alimony payments to the other party, there are enforcement actions for failure to pay, or for failure to pay on time.

A Motion for Contempt can be filed with the Court and if it is determined that the ex-spouse is willfully refusing to pay their court ordered alimony, even if they have the ability to pay, they can be held in contempt.

The court can impose sanctions including fines, statutory interest on arrearages, reimbursement of attorneys fees and potentially incarceration.
